My journey in communications started in 1999 when I began volunteering in the Chinese community around Arizona State University where I had studied chemistry. My wife and I developed strong friendships with many Chinese people in the Phoenix area and learned to love the Chinese language and learning with our new friends.
To accelerate our volunteer work, I began learning language acquisition techniques and strategies. With this knowledge, I taught Chinese to other volunteers in Phoenix and Tucson, many of whom are still working in the Chinese community there and elsewhere.
Our family decided to move to China in 2008. I began teaching English to English majors at the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan. After three years of teaching English and speaking and writing Chinese daily, I began translating and interpreting.
